E. Scott Booe was born in the Scott's Prairie neighborhood, Fountain County, Indiana Oct 2, 1853. He was the youngest son of Lorenzo Dowe Booe and Eleanor Moffett Booe, natives of NC and Tenn. respectively. These parents grew up in the South and were educated and married in the south. They came to Fountain County in the years 1827 and settled in the S P neighborhood, where they were engaged in general farming and stock raising. Into that home were born 6 children, all of whom have passed on to the land Eternal. They were James M; Josephine; Thomas N; John A; Simpson M; and E. Scott Booe, the subject of this sketch. E. Scott grew to manhood on the farm of his father and attended the common schools of the neighborhood. He spent 2 years in the old NW University now Butler located at Indianapolis. Later he attended Wabash College at Crawfordsville, graduating from the school with the class of 1877. His father died the year following Scott's graduation and he returned home to manage the farm and remained there until the death of his mother. On November 5, 1888 he was united in marriage to Ida PHILPOTT, the daughter of Harris a highly esteemed citizen of the S P neighborhood. To this union one child was born, Genevieve, who is now the wife of Garland Steinbaught of Kingman. He began housekeeping on the farm and remained there for 10 years, when in May 1900 the family moved to Kingman Indiana and Mr. Booe entered the banking business and with the exception of one year, 1910, when he served as a member of the State Board of Accounts, he continued in the banking business until the time of his death occupying during all that time the responsible positions either as President or Cashier of the bank with which he was associated. He began his Christian life with the SP Christian Church while a young man. He was a charter member of the Kingman Christ Church and an elder of that church at the time of his death. He was a member of the Phi Delta Pheta College Fraternity, was a member of the board of directors of the Indian School of Religion at Bloomington and a director of the Chicago Attica & So. RR Company. In 1885 he was elected a member of the Lower House of the Indiana Legislature where he served with distinction and where he formed many endearing friendships throughout the state. He passed away at his home in Kingman Monday June 1 at 1 o'clock p.m. at the age of 77 years 5 months 29 days. He is survived by his beloved wife and daughter, with whom many other relatives and innumerable friends mourn the loss of a devoted husband, an indulging father, a faithful friend and a Christian gentleman.
