Miss Elizabeth R. Booher, was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee Jan 7, 1837. She was the daughter of William Booher, Sr and Rhoda Hampton Booher. In 1834 her parents with number of other families came to Indiana they settled on a farm one and one half mile southeast of Darlington where they lived until 1879, in 1881 they moved into town, she and her father alone they having been the only members of the family left in the old home for some years. In 1883 her father departed from this life, so on after she located on Marin Street where she lived until one o'clock a.m. Jan 14, 1916 aged 89 years and 7 days when she departed as we believe to receive a crown from the Lord the righteous judge.

About 60 years ago she made a public confession of her faith in Christ and united with the Christian Church during all these years she has been a faithful and consistent follower of her Lord and Master. She had one full sister, Mrs. Silas Hiatt, four half sisters: Mrs. J.W. Tribbet; Mrs. AH Bowers; Mrs. Aniel Cunningham and Mrs. W.T. Warbinton and one half brother; Mr. Albert W. Booher the only surviving members of the family are Mrs. Tribbet, Mrs. Bowers and Mr. Booher the other three sisters having joined the great throng beyond the divide in the years gone by. In 1854 there were left to her care five orphan children the youngest being only two years old, to whom she was more than a sister, she has lived a faithful consistent life with a heart and hand ever ready to give and do for the needy and ... (smudged). In her departure many precious ties of friendship have been broken but the cords of love that bound her friends and loved ones to her will never be severed.

Darlington - Miss Elizabeth BOOHER, 89 one of the well known and beloved residents of this place died at an early hour this morning of the prevailing scourge of la grippe. Her illness was of but short duration she having been unusually well and active for one of her age. Aunt Betty has been a long time resident of this place. Silas Hiatt m. Elzira Booher
Ira Hiatt m. Sarah Mullen
Ada Hiatt m. Emery Moffitt
Ned Moffitt (my father)

Note: I have a great deal of info on the Hiatt line. A cousin did a genealogy in the 1980's. I have also collected all the Hiatt news clippings from the Crawfordsville library website. Also I have some information from my Grandma Ada's siblings. Anything you have besides that? I am also very interested in knowing more about Sarah Mullen Hiatt's background: Father William J. Mullen, mother Elizabeth Martz. William's second wife was Sarah Lackey. Sarah gave my grandmother a high chair in 1888 which has been used by my father, my sisters and myself and is in my home. William's parents were William Mullen and Sarah Endicott. I have not yet done much research on the Mullen/Endicott lines. Thanks, Sharon Cowen - this was in 2009 - kbz - her e-mail was returned to me in 2018 when we put all these obituaries in a new program - sorry
