Ralph Lawrence Booker, 71, formerly of Crawfordsville, died Jan. 31 in McPherson (Kan.) Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Booker had worked for Farmer Cooperatives in Indiana, was assistant general manager and vice president for Rock Island Refining Co. at Indianapolis and then took the position of executive vice president and general manager of National Cooperative Refinery Association at McPherson where he stayed until he retired in 1974. He was a charter member of the Grace Bible Church at McPherson, where he served as chairman of the board and taught Sunday School class. He served on the board of directors of Peoples State Bank and Trust, Memorial Hospital and Kansas Jack, Inc. He was chairman of the National Board of Trustees of the Child Evangelism Fellowship for 10 years and was a member of the state board of CEF. He was also a member of the Gideons and Christian Business Men’s Committee. Born Aug. 1, 1909, near Darlington, he was a son of James Vernie and Mary Shawver Booker. He was educated in Montgomery County. He was married in 1932 to Zula Keys of Waynetown, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Lowell and Lawrence of McPherson and James of Ottawa, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Booker of Crawfordsville; and a sister, Mrs. Vivienne Swearingen of Crawfordsville. Memorial services were held Tuesday in Grace Bible Church. Burial was in Crestwood Memorial Park North of McPherson. smc
