Abraham Bowers, former Montgomery county resident died at his home in Chicago Tuesday according to word received by relatives in this city yesterday afternoon. Mr. Bowers, a graduate of the University of Chicago at one time attended Wabash College. He was a member of the class of 1904. The deceased formerly taught school at New Market, Kirkpatrick, Colfax and Sheridan. Mr. Bowers was the son of Rev. and Mrs. AJ Bowers, former Darlington residents. Short funeral services will be conducted at the Union cemetery northeast of Darlington Friday afternoon. - kbz

Clarks Hill, July 17 -- Burial of Dr. Abraham Bowers, a native of Montgomery County and former principal of the Kirkpatrick and Colfax schools, occured at the Union Cemetery, near here Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Dr. Bowers died at his home in Chicago Tuesday evening. Dr. Bowers was born in Montgomery County Nov 17, 1868 and on Oct 2, 1897 was married to Elizabeth Scott. He as a great grandson of Abraham Bowers Sr who settled in TIppecanoe County 1829. Dr. bowers was the first registered student at the University of Chicago and graduated from the institution working his way through as a teacher. After serving as principal of the Colfax and Kirkpatrick Schools, Dr. Bowers for 25 years was field secretary for the Chicago YMCA. He is survived by the wife, four children, Walter, Washington DC; Matthew A, Ruth and Abner M of Chicago; two brothers, Frank living south of Linden and Adonja of Minneapolis with two sisters, Mrs. Charles ! Lease, Darlington and Mrs. Ruby Hawk, Chicago.
