PERL O. BOWERS

Perl O. Bowers, 87, retired former national secretary of the Ben Hur Life Association died Tuesday evening in a Lafayette Nursing Home. He had been in ill health the last 18 months. Mr. Bowers, who lived at 308 E. Pike St. since 1917, was a native of this county, born near Alamo April 24, 1877 to George W. and Jane Denman Bowers. He was married Nov 23, 1898 to Mae Faust, who preceded him in death. As a young man he taught school in Union Twp. He was associated with the Ben Hur Life Association from September 1907 to his retirement in October 1944. For a time he was state manager of that firm. He was a former member of the Crawfordsville Board of Police Commissioners. Surviving are a son, George F. Bowers of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Chicago; two daughters, Miss Mary Bowers and Mrs. Lora Mae Conner of Crawfordsville; a granddaughter, the wife of Dr. CL Friend and 3 great granddaughters and a brother, VL Bowers of Crawfordsville. Three brothers are deceased. Funeral services are announced for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, wit George f. Beatty officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. -- kbz
