Mrs. Viola Bowers, wife of Wm. N. Bowers died at her home Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock following a serious illness of two weeks. For several days her condition had been critical but her death came as a shock to her many friends. Viola Evans was born near Russiaville, Ind July 7, 1856 and died at Darlington Aug 29, 1916. She was married to Wm. N. Bowers Sept 15, 1903 and immediatelyc ame to Darlington where she has since resided. For many years prior to her marriage she was a teacher in the schools of Howard County. Early in life she joined the Methodist Church and upon ciming to this city became an active worker in the ME Church and Aid Society. She taught a class in the SS for 11 years. She was a charter member of the Book Lovers Club and the president of that organization for sevearl years. She was also largely instrumental in getting the movement started that resulted in the building of the public library. She could always be counted on to do the right thing and her sincerity and kindness of heart will have a wonderful and lasting influence on the people with whom she associated. The funeral which was private was held at the home Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. It was attended by the relatives, neighbors, members of her SS class and Book Lovers Club. Rev. Nicely officiated assited by LM Dunbar, Dean Little, Howard Kessler, Mesdames Kendall and Hiatt sang Nearer My God To Thee, Rock of Ages, and Jesus Lover of My SOul. At the grave they sang Asleep in jesus. The pall bearers were her 3 brothers, Charles, Oliver and William Evans and Mr. Bowers' sons, Lloyd, Austin and Will Bowers. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Oliver Evans and wife, Crystal Haworth, Mae Almeda and Julia Evans, Miles Keel and wife, LP Haworth, O.L. Quackenbush, and wife, Frnak hard and wife of Russiaville, W.S. Evans of Greentown, C.E. Evans and wife and W.F. Gordon of Kokomo; O.U. Greeson and wife, O.L. Steevns and wife, Merle Stevens and wife and Marie Stevens of Forest; FLora Hardin, A.G. Mendenhall and wife, Frank Bowers, Fannie Ashman and Mesdames Jennie Moore, Sallie Gordon, Belle Ross and Gracy Mowry of Frankfort; Silas Bowers and wife, James Waugh and wife, Crawfordsville, Frank Hoss and wife, New Market, L.D. Shannon and wife, Cutter, Lloyd Bowers and family, Lafayette and Austin Bowers and family, Kirkpatrick, Mr. and Mrs. Conrey of Urbana, Ill and Will Bowers and wife of Detroit. kbz
