WAYNETOWN--Clyde Bowlus, 68, former town marshal, died at 6 p.m. Friday of a heart attack at his home here. He had a heart ailment the past two years. Born at Williamsport on Feb. 5, 1900, he was the son of Lawrence and Florence Brown Bowlus. He was married to Mildred Burris at Hammond on Dec. 1, 1924. Mrs. Bowlus died in 1963. Mr. Bowlus served as town marshal for 11 years before retiring in the summer of 1967. He had just started working part time as a jailer at the county jail. Before coming to Waynetown he served as a Crawfordsville merchant police officer. He was a member of the Waynetown United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 302, Waynetown Merchants Association and Fraternal Order of Police. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Forest (Mary) Etling of Elgin, Ill. and Mrs. William E. (Barbara) Bennett of Seymour; a brother, Lee of Janesville, Wis., and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home. Rev. Ray Rhoda and Rev. Guy E. Tremaine will officiate, with burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Waynetown lodge at 8 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

WAYNETOWN --  Clyde Bowlus, 68, Williamsport, Ind., died at 6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 27, 1968). He was born Feb. 5, 1900, the son of Lawrence and Florence Brown Bowlus. He married Mildred Burris Dec. 1, 1924, and she preceded him in death in September,1966. Mr. Bowlus was a member of the Waynetown United Methodist Church, the Waynetown Masonic Lodge F&AM 302, and the Fraternal Order of Police. In 1967 he retired as town marshal, a post which he had held for 11 years. He was jailer at the Montgomery County Jail at Crawfordsville at the time of his death. He also was a member of the Waynetown Merchants Association, the Waynetown Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tri-County organization. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Forest (Mary) Etling of Elgin and Mrs. William (Barbara) Bennett of Seymour; one brother, Lee Bowlus of Janesville, Wis.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cerveys-Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Rhoda, pastor, and the Rev. Guy Tremaine officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
