Veedersburg -- Mrs. Effie Bowman, 79, wife of Elliott J. Bowman, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday in her home at Veedersburg. She had been in failing health two years and seriously ill since April 21 when she suffered a hip fracture in a fall at her home. Born Feb 25, 1879, near Wallace, Mrs. Bowman was the daughter of Joseph and Armilda Allen Banta. She married Mr. Bowman in 1897. Surviving besides the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Alma Stump and Mrs. Thelma Smick, both of Hammond and Mr. Armilda Wilbur of Veedersburg; 4 sons, Bruce and Joe W. Bowman, both of Veedersburg; Allen Bowman of St. John, Ind and David S. Bowman of Indianapolis; two brothers, Emory banta of Covington and Bruce Banta of Rockville; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchilldren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene who died at age two years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Wolf Creek Baptist Church near Wallace, of which Mrs. Bowman was a member. Burial will be at Wolf Creek Cemetery. The body wiill lie in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. Friends may call at the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg after 4 p.m. Thursday. - transcribed by kbz

In 1897 she was married to Elliott J. Bowman, who survives. Surviving in. addition to the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Alma Stump and Mrs. Thelma Smick, both of Hammond, and Mrs. Armilda Wilbur of Veedersburg, formerly of Covington Rt. l; four sons, Bruce and Joe W., both of Veedersburg, Allen of St. John, and David S. of Indianapolis; two brothers, Bruce of Rockville and Emery of this city; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchi1dren. The body is at the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Wolf Creek Baptist Church near Wallace, of which she wad a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
