Samuel N. Boyland - This well known resident died at his home in Browns Valley Saturday. Funeral services were held at the home Monday. Interment at Indian Creek Cemetery. Mr. Boyland was born in this county Sept 30, 1834. He married Katherine Giltner in 1864. She survives him. The living children are: Alvin and Frank of Aurora, Neb; Clarence of Shelbyville, Ada of Reynolds; and Jessie and Dora of Browns Valley. Mr. Boyland served as assessor of the township and was a man of excellent character. - kbz

Browns Valley March 16 - Samuel Nicholas Boyland, 79 years old, a native of this county and one of the best known men in the county, died at his home in Browns Valley at eight Saturday evening after an illness of a week with hardening of the arteries. Mr. Boyland was born southwest of Crawfordsville Sept 30, 1834 and was nearly 80 years old at death. He was the youngest of a family of nine children and was the last surviving member of the family. In August 1864, he was married to Katherine Giltner, near Browns Valley. The wife survives. One daughter, Nellie, died in 1908. Three sons, Alvan and Frank of Aurora, Neb and Clarence of Shelbyville and three daughters, Ada of Reynolds and Jessie and Dora living at home, survive the father. Miss Jessie is employed in the county surveyor's office in this city. Funeral services were held form the home today with burial in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery - kbz
