The tolling of the bell on the city building about 6 o’clock last Monday announced the death of John K. Bonnell, an ex-city official and one of Crawfordsville’s oldest and respected citizens. For three months Mr. Bonnell has been in feeble health, due to heart trouble, but not until 10 days ago did he take to his bed. He grew rapidly worse and for several days past it was hourly expected that the end would come. John Kibby Bonnell was born in Carthage, Hamilton County, Ohio April 25, 1823. On May 13th 1847 he was united in marriage to Sarah Emily Benedict and to them were born 7 children namely: Will H.; John R. and Mrs. Will Nash of this city; George S of St. Louis; Charles C. of Los Angeles, Cal; Mrs. RPA Berryman of Louisville and Ed of Jamestown NY all of whom are still living. The wife was called to her make rin 1870.  Mr. Bonnell came to Montgomery County in 1857 and settled near Fredericksburg.  Two years later he located in Crawfordsville and has since been prominently identified with business interests and growth of the city. For years he engaged in manufacturing and for three terms served the city well in the capacity of city treasurer. Mr. Bonnell was a life long member of the Christian Church, one of the pioneers in fact for it was under the guidance of Rev. Alexander Campbell its found that he was led into the church. The funeral of John K. Bonnell took place Tuesday afternoon from the residence of WB Nash on West Wabash Avenue. Burial occurred at Oak Hill. - thanks to Kim H

John Kibbey Bonnell died Monday afternoon at 5:05 o’clock after a long illness, his complaint being heart disease. The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the residence of W. B. Nash on West Pike Street, conducted by Rev. S. H. Creighton. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Bonnell was born April 25, 1823, in Hamilton County, Ohio, and was married to Sarah Emily Benedict on May 13, 1847, who died September 1, 1870. To them seven children were born, all of whom still live. These children are: Wm. H. Bonnell, John R. Bonnell and Mrs. W. B. Nash, of Crawfordsville; C. C. Bonnell, of St. Louis; Edward M. Bonnell, of New York, and Mrs. R. P. A. Berryman of Louisville.
In 1857 Mr. and Mrs. Bonnell removed from Ohio to Fredricksburg, this county, and in 1859 to Crawfordsville, where Mr. Bonnell followed his occupation of wagon making for some years. He also served as city treasurer for two or three terms, but of late years has lived retired from active business.
Mr. Bonnell was a consistent member of the Christian Church and was a most excellent citizen. Quiet, unassuming and conscientious he lived honored and respected by all who knew him, and in his death a loss is sustained by the community in which his useful career was passed.
