(Elder) JOHN BRADY

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Review 12-27-1884

Editor Review - At the request of the bereaved relict, I sent you the following obituary of her late husband, Elder John Brady - Jesse J.

Goben Elder John Brady was born in the state of Pennsylvania, September 2, 1804; came with his father to Hamilton County, Ohio, the same year. Some 50 years ago he emigrated to Indiana, settling in Montgomery County, where he has since resided. Elder Brady died Dec 5, 1884, aged 77 Years 2 Months 3 Days.

Note: His birth date on his tombstone in Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville Indiana is Sept 2, 1807 died Dec 5, 1884.

Shortly after his arrival in this state he was called to the ministry of the gospeal and served to the entire acceptance of his brethren, testifying to the grace of God and found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Brother Brady lived in accordance with his profession truthful, temperate and faithful in all things. Those who knew him best loved him most. The writer of this often visited him and together they have spent many happy hours. He was a great sufferer and was confined to his house, with slight exceptions for one year previous to death. But notwithstanding his affliction he never once lost faith in the gospel or the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ. He bowed his head like a hero and said, "Lord Thy Will not mine be done!" Thus a good man in Israel has passed away, having spent the major portion of his life for the good of others. In the midst of shifting scenes and dying friends he always comforted the bereaved. In the midst of death's woes his kindly voice was heard pointing the mourners to the better Land. Truly we gather our figs from thistles, our roses from thorns and our honey from the midst of many stings," of the mixture of joys and sorrows we daily pass through! - kbz
