Mrs. Gertrude D. Britton, 86, died at noon Monday at her home on Greencastle Road (Rt 7). She was born June 28, 1880, in New Market, the daughter of John Calvin and Mary Jane Johnson Hampton. She married John Franklin Britton November 4, 1908. They began housekeeping at Toledo, Ohio. Four years later they moved to New Market. In 1919 they moved to Crawfordsville. Mrs. Britton had been a member of 1st Christian Church, C'ville. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Francis C. Hildebrandt of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Robert B. Wray of Willard, Ohio and Mrs. A.P. D'Onofrio of Van Nuys, Calif; a son, John F. Britton of Indianapolis; one grandson, Philip Wray of Glenview, Ill; three granddaughters, Susan and Lynda D'Onofrio and Sally Jo Britton of Terre Haute, one great granddaughter, Sheri Lynn Wray and one great grandson, Gregory Allan Wray. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, John Rodney Britton; two sons, Robert and Loren Britton and an infant granddaughter, Sally Hildebrandt. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at First Church of Christ with Rev Paul F. Million and Rev. Howard F. Miller officiating. Burial in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at Bright Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the services. -- kbz
