Charles E. BROOKS, 85, died at his home in Waveland at 3:45 p.m Monday of complications following a heart ailment. He had been in poor health for 8 years. Born Jan 6, 1870, Litchfield, MO he was the son of Elias S. and Phobie Brooks. He married Cora Edna Whiting Oct 29, 1893 at Licking Mo. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Waveland. Mr. Brooks served as the town marshal of Waveland for 7 years. For 20 years he operated a shoe repair shop here. He was for a number of years the Waveland justice of the peace. Mr. Brooks resided in Stone Bluff for 20 years before coming to Waveland. Survivors include the widow; 3 sons: James L. of South Bend; Clyde E. of Waveland and Elmer of Attica; five daughters, Mrs. Nettie Belcher; Mrs. Bertha Davis of Stone Bluff; Mrs. Goldie Morgan of Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Eulah Stockwell and Mrs. Eva Linton both of Waveland; 3 sisters, Mrs. Fannie Deming of Carthage, Mo ; Mrs. Phebe Noel of Licking, MO . and Mrs. Nannie Weaver of Centralia, Washington; 20 grandchildren and 15 greats. Funeral services were held at the Machledt Funeral Home, Waveland Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Grover DeNeal of the Christian Church was in charge of the services. Interment in Waveland Presbyterian Church. -  kbz
