Mrs. Evelyn Brooks departed this life February 12, aged 61 years, 4 months, and 2 days. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Methodist church, and leaves two daughters, one son and a host of friends to morn her loss. The funeral occurred Saturday, February 13, at the M.E. church, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Riley. Interment at Pisgah cemetery. Mrs. Brooks died at her home in New Ross, Friday morning, Feb. 12, 1897. She was born in North Carolina, Oct. 10, 1836, and was 61 years, four months and two days old when she died. In Knoxville, Tenn., March 29, 1855, she was married to Warren Brooks. At the age of 16 she became a member of the Missionary Baptist church, of which she was a member until they came to Indiana in 1865, when she with her husband became members of the Methodist church. Her life was dedicated to the service of the Master. She raised eight children, only three of whom are left. The community has lost a good neighbor and the church a faithful, devoted member but what has been our loss has been her gain, for she gave much evidence of her acceptance by her Saviour. - thanks to Kim H
