Mrs. Dorcas Brown, died at New Market this morning at the age of 92 years. She was born in NC and settled in this county in 1824. Her first husband was Jesse Bush, and to them were born five sons. Her second husband was Wm. Brown and their only child, Squire Brown of New Market, survives them. The funeral will be conducted on Friday, interment at Davis Cemetery near Ladoga. - transcribed by kbz

Mrs. Dorcas Brown, relict of Wm Brown, died Wednesday night at New Market. The funeral will occur this morning at ten o’clock at the Methodist Church in New Market, conducted by Rev. Handley, of Ladoga. Interment will be in the James Davis Cemetery.  Mrs. Dorcas Brown was born in Virginia July 13, 1808, and came to this state in 1816 and to Montgomery County in 1824. She was married to Jesse Rush first and to this union was born five children. After Mr. Rush’s death she was married a second time to William Brown, and to them was born one child. Five of the children survive. Mrs. Brown was probably the oldest female resident of the county and was a woman of many splendid qualities and endowed with the many virtues and attributes of a pioneer life. She was loved and respected and her life was a beautiful example of true Christianity. -s
