William H. Bryant, 90, retired business man, who almost a quarter of a century was identified with business interests of this community, died Saturday afternoon at Culver hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He was taken ill six weeks ago. The son of J.R. Bryant and Aura Raynor Bryant, he was born in Indianapolis, August 7, 1857, where he spent his boyhood. Later the family moved to a farm near Romney where Mr. Bryant lived until he came to Crawfordsville. Mr. Bryant, who attended Wabash college, was associated with his father in the cresting and culvert business for many years. The establishment occupied the site of the present Producers Dairy Products company at the intersection of Washington and Pike street. Mr. Bryant married Miss Ida Canine of Crawfordsville in 1880. The original family home was 511 east Wabash avenue. Later Mr. and Mrs. Bryant established their home at 407 south Washington street where Mr. Bryant had lived since. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James Cable of Sierra Madre, Cal., one sister, Mrs. Newman Essick of Los Angeles Cal., and two grandsons, George Hopkins, and Derk Cable. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Utterback and Bright funeral home with Rev. C. Howard Taylor of the first Methodist officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
