Breaks - Thomas B - 1900

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday Friday, 30 March 1900

Thomas B. Breaks, of 1003 West Main Street, met with a probably fatal injury Monday morning at New Richmond. He had driven to that place in a farm wagon for a load of seed oats and met with the accident while crossing the Clover Leaf tracks near the elevator. The crossing is a rough one and when Mr. Breaks’ wagon went upon it there was a violent jolt which threw him out. He struck squarely upon his head on one of the steel rails and sustained an ugly fracture of the skull. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and was borne to the home of his nephew, Albert Snyder, Dr. Washburn being hastily called. He pronounced the injury a very grave one, if not fatal, and Dr. Ensminger was telephoned for.  Mr. Breaks is one of the well known and substantial citizens of the county, highly respected by all who know him. He has no children and since leaving his farm has resided on Main Street with his wife. The news of his misfortune causes much regret in the city and county as well as a hope that his injury may not be so grave as is now feared. – thanks so much to s for her great work in the obit section of this site 😊 Greatly appreciated
