Elizabeth Gose, daughter of Stephen and Dicy Gose, was born in Russell County, Virginia, July 16, 1824. Died April 30, 1900, aged 75 years, 9 months and 14 days. When 7 years of age she came to Indiana with her parents, who settled between Jamestown and New Ross. November 1, 1849, she was married to William Brown and to them was born six sons and one daughter, Tighlman A., Earl H., John W., Willard P., George O., Lee Anna J., and Thomas Jay. Willard died at the age of 16 years.

William, her husband, came to Indiana when a small boy and his parents settled on the farm where William and his wife afterward spent their entire married life, and where she resided till death, he having preceded her to the spirit world since July 3rd, 1891.

She joined the M. E. Church at the age of 16 years, in an old log church afterward known as Brown’s Chapel. She has always been a faithful and consistent member of the church, an exemplary Christian, a tender and loving wife, and a mother whom her children call “blessed.” Hers was a sweet, beautiful life and surely one of the “salt of the earth.”
The funeral took place from her home, one and one half miles southeast of New Ross, Rev. H. C. Riley officiating, assisted by Rev. Byron Adkins. Interment was in the new I. O. O. F. Cemetery. -s
