Lafayette Swain of Parke County who was shot by his brother, will recover. Moses Swain, who did the shooting, has been committed for killing Gabriel Bryant. He is also held under $200 for shooting Lafayette. Public sympathy is with Moses so far as trouble with his brother is concerned because it is claimed that Lafayette treated him shamefully. Had Lafayette been killed instead of Bryant, who was an inoffensive old man, there would not have been general regret. -kbz

Rockville, Oct 9 – After being out 18 hours the jury returned a verdict acquitting Moses Swaim of the charge of killing Gabriel Bryant. Last July Moses shot Bryant and nearly killed his brother and Lafayette Swaim, who were trying to harvest wheat on his land, which is in dispute. He is yet to be tried for attempting to kill his brother. These two brothers have been lawing for 20 years and Moses was the one most abused. The prisoner was defended by SD Puett and JS McFaddin and the State was represented by Deputy Prosecutor Howard Maxwell and James T. Johnston.  - kbz
