Elder James BURFORD was born in Mercer County, Kentucky, June 3, 1817 ; died Waveland, Oct 15, 1900 aged 73 years 4 months and 12 days. He had been in unusually good health, having attended church at Mt. Moriah, Sunday coming home to his son, Robert's in the evening. He retired a little about 8 o'clock feeling well and in good spirits, but was taken violently ill about 3 o'clock and aroused the family. A physician was hastily called, but although everything possible was done to give relief, he expired at 3:30, having suffered intense pain. Death was due to heart disease with which he had been afflicted for a number of years. His parents moved to Indiana the year of his birth. He married Sarah Ann Reddish, Feb 15, 1849, with whom he lived happily until her death which occurred Jan 23, 1894. To them were born six children: five sons and one daughter, Elizabeth who died July 11, 1900. In 1851, he joined the Regular Predestrian Baptist and has lived a consistent Christian life his remaining days. The funeral services were conducted by Elders Dodimead and Airhart at the ME Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. James Burford, an old and respected citizen of Waveland, died very suddenly of heart disease Monday morning at the home of his son, Robert Burford. He was sick less than half an hour. Mr. Burford was the father of Judge John H. Burford, of Oklahoma.
