Mrs. Elmira Alice BURKE, 80, lifelong resident of this city, died at her home 611 Tuttle Ave, Friday night at 9:45. Although Mrs. Burke had been in failing health for the past several months, she had been seriously ill for only a few days. Death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. The deceased was known for her kind and cheerful disposition which kept her smiling even in the face of adversity. Mrs. Burke was born in this city Oct 10, 1852, the daughter of George and Melvina Porter. She was married to J. Sloan Burke March 26, 1878. The family had lived at Tuttle Avenue address for many years. Mrs. Burke was a member of the 1st Methodist Church. The survivors include one daughter, Miss Bertha Burke at home; two sons, Henry and Fred both of the city; two grandchildren, Harry and Helen Burke and 3 brothers, Henry Porter of Niles, MI; Ed Porter of St. Paul, MN and Darr Porter of Muncie. The funeral will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. - kbz
