Clarence L. BURROUGHS

Clarence L. BURROUGHS, 69, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Nellie b. young near Shannondale Friday night. Death was due to heart trouble, and followed an illness of five months. Mr. Burroughs was born near Shannondale Feb 21, 1873, son of Martin and Malinda Burroughs. He was never married. At the age of 18 he began teaching school. Later he spent 3 years at medical school but abandoned his studies to become a railroad mail clerk. He worked on the Big 4 railroad, having a run from Chicago to Cincinnati. Mr. Burroughs was a member of the IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] lodge. The survivors include 3 sisters: Nellie B. Young at whose home he died and Mrs. CD Shannon and Mrs. JO LaFollette all of near Shannondale. The funeral services will be held at the Young home Sunday afternoon at 2. Burial in Shannondale Cemetery.
