James Franklin Byrd, a retired farmer and a resident of Crawfordsville for the past thirty years, died at his home, 1104 Danville avenue, Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock following an illness of two weeks. Pneumonia was the cause of his death. Mr. Byrd was born near Ladoga on Jan. 26, 1857, a son of Thomas and Mary J. Chesterson Byrd. He grew to young manhood in Ladoga and was married to Miss Melvina J. Stoner on April 15, 1885. Mrs. Byrd passed away in August 1919. Mr. Byrd is survived by two daughters Mrs. Frank Howard, Danville, east Main street; one sister, Mrs. Amanda Simms, also of this city; and two grand children, Ellen Smith and Franklin Howard. Funeral services will be conducted at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be in charge of Dr. John S. Ward, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church.
