Source: Russellville News Jan 14, 1938 - James Henry BYRD age 81 died at the ho me of his daughter, Mrs. Glen Pickel in Carpentersville.  He was born in Montgomery County in 1856 the son of William and Elizabeth Britts Byrd.  He was first married to Josephine Shackelford in November 1878. Aft er her death he married Thena Martin in November 1901.  His first wife died June 27, 1894 and second wife died May 29, 1932.  Surviving are 5 children, Mrs. James Bradley of Ladoga, William Byrd of Russellville, Dr. EH By rd of Francesville, Jeff Byrd of near Ladoga, and Mrs. Glen Pickel. Al so a half brother Homer Pinnell of California. He was buried in Cornstalk cemetery near Ladoga.

James Henry Byrd, 81, died Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mr s. Glenn Pickel of Carpentersville. Funeral services were held at Ladoga Tuesday, with burial in the Cornstalk Cemetery near Ladoga. He was born Dec ember 8, 1856 in Scott Township, Montgomery County, Indiana, the son of William and Elizabeth Britts Byrd. He married twice; first to Josephine Shackelford in 1878, and following her death, June 27, 1894, he then married Thena Martin in November 1901. She died May 29, 1932. Surviving besides the daughter, another daughter, Mrs. James Bradley of east of Ladoga, three sons; William Byrd of Russellville, Dr. E. H. Byrd of Francesville and Jeff Byrd of near Ladoga and a half brother, Homer Pinnell of California.
