MELVINA POWELL STONER BYRD

Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home in Highland on the Danville road, occurred the death of Mrs. Melvina BYRD, wife of J. F. Byrd, after an illness of many months. Mrs. Byrd was 64 years of age and has been a resident of Montgomery county during her entire life. Melvina POWELL was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (WELCH) Powell for many years residents of Walnut Township, residing two miles north of New Ross. She was a most estimable lady and a lifelong member of the Christian church. She was twice married, the first union being to John Stoner, a resident of New Ross. Her second marriage was to J. F. Byrd of near this city. She is survived by her husband and two daughers, Mrs. Frank HOWARD and Mrs. George SMITH, all of this city; three sisters, Eliza MILLER, Elizabeth BOWMAN, and Matilda STEWART and six brothers, Charles Powell of State Line, Messer Powell of New Ross, William Powell of New Ross, Elmer Powell of Danville, Ind., Newton Powell of near Bainbridge, and John Powell of Apache, Okla. The funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with burial at Pisgah cemetery. = kbz
