Crawfordsville – A man shot and killed his estranged wife with a high-powered rifle here Tuesday night, then shot himself in an arm, police said.  Mrs. Frances Buckles, 51, died shortly after being admitted to Culver Hospital here. Her husband, Owsley K. Buckles, 48, a Wingate contractor was taken to Long Hospital in Indianapolis where his condition was reported satisfactory today. His arm was torn badly by a slug from a .306 gun. Mrs. Buckles had sued for divorce and had moved to an apartment near downtown Crawfordsville.  Patrolman Don Goble said Buckles told him he kicked in a window after his wife wouldn’t let him into the apartment Tuesday night after she returned home.  “I don’t know,” Goble said Buckles answered when asked why he shot his wife. He was charged with first-degree murder.  One of the shots from the rifle tore entirely through a house across the street, just passing over a woman sleeping in her bed.  - jkbz
