OBITUARY: Elbert Eugene CALDWELL, well known retired farmer, of Ladoga,died at home at this place at 1:20 o'clock Saturday afternoon. He had been ill the past 2 years and death was caused by a complication of diseases.

Mr. CALDWELL was born February 13, 1859 in Hendricks Co, Indiana, a son of William Andrew CALDWELL and Elizabeth ROSE CALDWELL. On August 8, 1881, he was married to the former Maria Owen CROWDER of Danville. KY, who survives with four children, Mrs Fred HILLIS of Hazelton, Mrs Frank RADFORD of near Roachadale, Miss Mary CALDWELL at home, and Harold CALDWELL of near Ladoga, ten grandchildren and four great-grand children. He was a member of the Ladoga Presbyterian Church and the IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] Lodge.

Funeral services were conducted at the Gottschall Funeral Home Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. V D RAGAN of Indianapolis assisted by Rev H G WEISBECKER. Burial was made in the Ladoga cemetery in the afternoon at 2 o'clock A quartet composed of Miss Carrie ROBBINS, Mrs. George SCHACKELFORD, I M MILLIKEN and John KESSLER sang "In the Garden", and "Shall We Gather at the River" and a solo "Shadows" was sung by Eugene HUTCHINS of Roachdale. Mrs George FRANTZ presided at the piano.

Those to assist with the beautiful tribute of flowers were Margaret, Nellie, Dorothy and Louise CALDWELL, Margaret GRIGSBY, Mrs Jeanette THOMPKINS, Mrs Mary GENUNG, Mrs Simpson WILLS and Mrs Lula KENNEDY.

Pall bearers were George HARRIS, Robert L BARNES, Simpson WILLS, Raymond CALDWELL, Joe CALDWELL and Dode CRODIAN.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs George LONG, Mrs Irwin JEFFRIES, and Harry DURHAM of North Salem; E P ROSE of Thorntown; Mr & Mrs H K GRIGSBY and daughter Margaret and Mrs F L KENNEDY OF Louisville; Mrs Jeanette THOMPKINS, Miss Edna Bell SMITHERS and D. G. YEAST of Frankfort, Ky; Mr & Mrs F B HILLIS of Hazelton, Ind; J O CROWDER of Danville, KY; Ollie EDWARDS and Miss Ella CASH of Mace; Mrs Barney ZIMMERMAN and daughter Marcella and Mr & Mrs Charles OAKEY of Indianapolis; Ed BROCKWAY of Greencastle.

Elbert Eugene Caldwell well known retired farmer of Ladoga, father of Mrs. Frank Radford of near Roachdale, died at his home at 1:20 o'clock Saturday afternoon.  He had been ill the past two years and death was caused by a complication of diseases.  Mr. Caldwell was born Feb 13, 1859 in Hendricks County the son of William Andrew and Elizabeth Rose Caldwell.  On Aug 3, 1881, he was united in marriage with Marie Owen Crowder of Danville, Ky.  He was a member of the Ladoga Presbyterian Church. The widow survives and two other daughters, Mrs. Fred Hillis of Hazelton and Miss Mary Caldwell at home, a son Harold of near Ladoga, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at Ladoga t 2 o'clock Monday afternoon.  - kbz
