-- Ladoga, Dec 5 - A telegram was received here this morning announcing the death of J.C. Call, better known here as Charles at the home of his only son, Bert Call of Alvin, Ill. He died at 7 on Monday evening of hardening of the arteries and nervous complications. He has been in ill health for about two years and spent last winter in Florida. About a month ago he sold his fine farm, located about 3 miles south of here, and went to Alvin to pay his son a visit prior to going south for the winter. His malady was a puzzling one, as he walked in circles when he would attempt to do his ordinary farm work. He went to a specialist in Indianapolis and was treated a few weeks ago and after returning home seemed better and his relatives were led to believe that he would ultimately recover Mr. Call was one of the prominent farmers of Clark Township and his many friends here will be sorry to learn of his death He was a prominent member of the Ladoga Christian Church. He leaves a widow, two children, Bert, where he died and Mrs. Lulu Cunningham of Vancouver, British Columbia; three sisters, Mrs. Mellie Jones of this place; Mrs. James Dickerson of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Frank Shackelford of Indianapolis and two brothers, James Call of this place and William Call of Roachdale. Dr. Call of Roachdale is a nephew. The funeral services will be conducted at the home of his son is Alvivn, Ill and will be conducted by his former pastor, Rev WH Newlin, pastor of the Christian Church here. Interment will be made in a cemetery at Alvin. --kbz

Ladoga, Dec 6 – Word has been received here of the death of Charles Call, a former resident of this place who committee (sic – committed) suicide at the home of his son, Bert Call in Alvin, Ill Monday evening. Mr. Call hung himself, fastening a rope around his bed post and bending his knees until he strangled. Continued ill health and resultant despondency are given as the cause for the act.  He was 67 years of age. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon and interment made at Alvin.  Charles Call was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Squire Call and was born in Putnam County near Carpentersville 67 years ago. He married Sophie Benson and to them were born a son and daughter. For years Mr. Call and family had been highly respected residents of Scott township until a few weeks ago when he sold his farm and personal property and went to visit his son,  Bert in Alvin, Ill.  Later he intended to go South for his health which was impaired by a nervous trouble but it was not thought serious.  The daughter, Mrs. Lulu Cunningham went to Seattle, Wash about two months ago to make her home near there. Mr. Call leaves a widow, two children and three grandchildren. Two brothers, William of Roachdale and James of Ladoga and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Shackelford of Indianapolis; Mrs. Mollie Jones of Ladoga and Mrs. James Dickerson of Crawfordsville also survive.
