Charles A. Canine, whose critical illness was noted last week, died in Union Hospital, Terre Haute at five on Friday morning, after a week of intense suffering. Funeral services at Union Church at half past 10 on Sunday morning were in charge of Rev. HH Elmore of Crawfordsville. Messrs. John Sharp, Albert J. Denk, and OG Swanay sang; Mrs. Denk playing the accompaniment. The pall bearers were: Jesse Reynolds, Jesse Henry, Albert Rice, Goerge Loman Jr., Sam and Fred Priebe. The flower bearers were Parke and Lowell Spencer, Jake Glascock, Lee Foster, Garrie Dillman and Hubert Loudermill. Burial in Union cemetery. The following obituary was read: Charles Albert Canine was the son of William R. and Margaret McCord Canine. He was born on their farm near Freedom Church Feb. 2nd 1862. He died at union hospital, Terre Haute Jan 21; aged 64Y11M19D. He married Susan A. Deere who died Dec 30, 1917. To them was born a daughter, Edith now Mrs. Joseph Rice. He has been a faithful and devoted member of Freedom Church since 1912 and has lived practically all his life on his farm which is part of the farm on which he was born. He was Past Master of Waveland Lodge No 300 F& Am and member of Montgomery Chapter Royal Arch Masons. He served one term as county commissioner. On Jan 14, 1927, he was married to Mrs. Nancy Willoughby. He was stricken very suddenly on Jan 14 and was taken the next day to Union hospital where he was given every attention possibly by skilled nurses and surgeons and by friends. He had spent life in splendid service to his family, friends, community and county and to his Church. Charles Nelson Rice coming from Connersville, Sat. for the funeral of his grandfather, C.A. Canine was in a car wreck at Greenfield but escaped injury. His father, Joseph Rice is in the Connersville hospital, suffering with rheumatism. - kbz
