Cornelius L. Canine died at his home two miles north of town, Wednesday afternoon of paralysis. Cornelius Leonard Canine was born Feb 22, 1827 on the farm near where his brother, JJ Canine now lives, making him one of the oldest men born in the township. He was married to Keziah MONTGOMERY Nov 5, 1845 who was taken from him June 11, 1894. He settled on the farm where he spent his life in the spring of 1847. They were blessed with 10 children, 7 of them still living. He joined Union Baptist Church on the 4th Saturday in May 1854 and was ordained deacon soon after. He died June 1, 1898, being 71 years 3 months and 7 days. Although he had been in poor health for nearly 3 years, when the fatal stroke came on May 16, he never rallied, and for 3 days was entirely unconscious of everything around him, and calmly and easily fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. Released from his pain and sufferings here, his spirit took its flight to the shining realm of endless day, while his body will be consigned to the narrow limits of the tomb, there to await the voice of the angel of the Lord when he shall come the second time without sin unto salvation, to gather his ransomed children home. His life needs no enconiums from his children, it having been known and read of all men. Funeral services were held at the church of his youth today, conducted by Eld. MB Moffett of Paris, Ill.
