Herbert A. Canine, 70, 504 E. Main St., a retired state highway employe, died Thursday morning in Culver Hospital where he had been a patient one week. Death was attributed to a coronary occlusion. A native of Thorntown, Mr. Canine was born May 14, 1893, the son of Albert and Almeda Canine. He married Leona R. Smith Nov. 18, 1914, at Lebanon. Mr. Canine was a member of the Thorntown Methodist Church, Crawfordsville Eagles Lodge and the Fathers Auxiliary of the Montgomery County VFW Post. During his early life he was a farmer in Boone and Montgomery counties. He also worked for the City of Crawfordsville in addition to the state highway department. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Lyle Canine of Battle Creek, Mich., and Jack Canine of Crawfordsville, and two daughters, Mrs. Audra Combs of Indianapolis and Mrs. Donna Ward of Norfolk, Va. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be at Maplelawn Cemetery at Thorntown. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at noon Friday.
