J.L. CANINE (sic) passed away Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martha Martin in Crawfordsville. She (sic) is survived by the following children: Mrs. Howard MUNNS of New Market; Joe Canine of Washington DC; Tude Canine of Browns Valley and Robert of Freedom. kbz

Lemuel Jackson Canine, 87 retired Montgomery County farmer succumbed Thursday morning of last week to the infirmities of age at the home of a daughter Mrs. Maude Martin, 109 E. College St, Crawfordsville. He had been in failing health two years. Born Sept 14, 1856 in Montgomery Co, Mr. Canine was the son of James Wilson Canine and Sarah Canine pioneer Indiana couple. He was married Dec 17, 1874 to Lessie J. MILLIGAN who preceded him in death June 21, 1911. Surviving besides the daughter at whose home he died are four sons: Robert of Waveland; Tude of Browns Valley; Ollie of near Crawfordsville and Dr. Joe Canine of Washington, DC one daughter, Mrs. Nannie MUNNS of New Market, a brother George W, 89 of near Waveland; 15 grandchildren and 10 greats. A son, Harry B, preceded him in death in August 1895. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Freedom Baptist Church of which he was a member with the Rev. David CANINE a grandson officiating. Burial was at Freedom cemetery. - kbz
