Waveland -- Nellie G. CANINE, 105, of Waveland died at 4:45 p.m. Friday in the Lane House Health Care Center at Crawfordsville. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Canine retired from the Chemistry Department at Wabash College in 1974. She had also been employed as secretary for the chief of the Children's Bureau in Department of Labor at Washington, DC. She was employed as a secretary for the Home Economics Department at Purdue University. She owned and operated the Weatherill Restaurant at Browns Valley. She also taught school at Browns Valley. She was a member of the Browns Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1908 graduate of Waveland HS and attended Indiana University. She was born Oct 27, 1890 in Browns Valley to Fisher B. and Tassie MATHERS GALEY. She married Joseph R. Canine April 9, 1921 in Washington, DC. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a niece and four nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in Machledt & Servies Funeral Home at Waveland with the Rev. Kenneth O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery at Waveland.
