SUSAN DEER CANINE

Mrs. Charles A. Canine, who has been ill for almost two years with a complication of diseases, passed away at her home north of Waveland, Sunday morning. Susan Ann, daughter of Joel G & Mary Deer, pioneer residents of Brown Twp, was born Sept 21, 1860 at the old home place, one mile South of Deer's Mill. She departed this life Dec 30, 1917 aged 57Y3M9D. She was married to Charles A. Canine Feb 19, 1889. To this union, one child, Edith, now Mrs. Joseph Rice was born who with the husband, survive her. Mrs. Canine was the second daughter of a family of 10 children. The aged mother and 7 of these children survive: Charles, Albert and Steven of Waveland; John of Fresno, Cal; Mrs. John Whittington of Cayuga; Mrs. WT Whittington and George Deer of Crawfordsville. In early youth Mrs. canine united with the Freedom Baptist church, near which place her entire married life was spent. Her death will be keenly felt by the church, in whose welfare she was so deeply interested and her place in the home, as a loving wife and mother, will be missed. Thruout (sic) her entire illness she has borne her pain and suffering in a most patient manner and is now committed to the One in whom she put her trust. The funeral exercises were conducted on Tuesday morning at the home, by Rev. John Cauldwell, a former pastor of the Freedom church. The remains were laid to rest in Old Union Cem. Prof. EN Canine of E. Chicago; Mrs. David Canine and son Preston of Crawfordsville and Mrs. John Whittington and dau, Julia of Cayuga were present from a distance. =kbz
