Browns Valley  -- Frances DEER CANINE, 94, of Browns Valley, died Friday evening in the Carmen Nursing Home. She had been in failing health for six years. She was a member of the Browns Valley Baptist Church and the missionary society. She and her husband, Stephen Deer, owned and operated grocery stores at Deeres Mill, Alamo and Browns Valley for 43 years. The last 10 of which she continued the operation by herself. Mrs. Canine was born March 3, 1882 in Warren County to Michael and Ellen KELLER WELCH. She was married to Stephen DEER on Feb 13, 1900 at Wallace. After Mr. Deere's death, she was married to Tude CANINE on Dec 11, 1948 at New Market. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nelson (Margaret) BAYLESS of Crawfordsville; a son, rank Deer of Greencastle; a step son, Kenneth Canine of Brownsburg; a grandson, Kenneth Canine of Greencastle and five great grandchildren. Services were this morning. Burial was in Freedom Cemetery. The Rev. Raymond Skelton officiated. There were no calling hours. -- kbz
