Samuel W. Carpenter died at his home on Howard Street Wednesday evening after an illness of some weeks. The body was taken to his birthplace, Florence, Ky this morning where the funeral services will be held. Mr. Carpenter was born June 2, 1846. He was married to Anna Campbell of Cincinnati, Jan 8, 1871. Three children all living were born to them: Braxton of this place; Douglas of DesMoines, iowa and Campbell of Niagra Falls, NY. The widow and 3 gandchildren survive. Mr. Carpenter moved here 17 years ago and engaged in the drug business which he continued until his death. -- kbz

Waveland - Samuel W. Carpenter, 68 years old, well known druggist of this place died yesterday afternoon at 5 of a complication of diseases after a prolonged illness. He was born at Florence, Kentucky, Jan 8, 1846, and in 1871 married Miss Anna Campbell of the same place. To this union 3 children, Douglas of Des Moines, Iowa; Braxton of Waveland and Campbell Carpenter, Niagra Falls were born. The widow and sons survive. Mr. Carpenter had been a resident of Waveland for the past 15 years and he has made a large circle of friends here by his honest and square dealing. All three of his sons were at Mr. Carpenter's beside when he passed away. The chief cause of his demise was dropsy. Mr. Carpenter had been in the drug business 18 years, having begun his career as a druggist at Delphi, Ohio near Cincinnati. The body laid in state today and on Friday will be taken back to his old home in Kentucky where the funeral services will occur and then interment. -- kbz
