Source: Waveland Independent newspaper, Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana Sept 16, 1932

John CARRINGTON aged 84, attempted to hang himself at the home of his son, Manford Carrington, east of Russellville on Saturday morning. He had tied a rope around his neck and was jumping from a wagon when Mrs. Carrington saw and cut him down before he was suffocated. While she was going for help he slashed his throat with a pocket knife but did not sever any large blood vessles. He was taken to Culver and will probably recover. His wife has been dead for 10 years and he has been living with his children. For the past 6 months his eyesight has been failing. kbz
