Darlington - Ben T. Carson, 87, died at 6 p.m. Thursday at Bowles Nursing Home, Clarks Hill where he had been a patient since Tuesday. Born Nov 3, 1872 near North Vernon, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Anderson Carson. He married Minnie F. White Oct 30 1894 in Thorntown. Mr. Carson had been a farmer in the Colfax and Darlington areas for several years. He had run a grocery in Colfax and Darlington. In 1933 he began farming near Darlington until 1956 when he retired. He was a member of te Darlington Methodist Church. Surviving are the wife; two sons, Brenton of Darlington and Ralph of Tangier; one daugter, Mrs. James Remle of Racine, Wis; 5 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren and one brother, Walter of Colfax. He was preceded in death by two daughters, a son, a brother and sister. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bright Funeral Home, Darlington. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery at Colfax. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday. - kbz
