Caldwell - Robert F (Rev)

Word has been received here of the death of the Rev. Mr. Caldwell, of Sharpsburg, Ky. Mr. Caldwell was formerly pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of this city and was a popular minister in the place. His many friends here will be pained to learn of his demise.

At his late home in Sharpsburg of paralysis Rev. Robert Fulton Caldwell on the mornin gof the 19th inst, passed from earth to glory after many years of usefulness as a citizen and minister of the Presbyterian Church. He was 86 years 5 nonths 25 days old. At the age of 17 he united with the Presbyterian Church at Moorfield and attended college at Danville. Had he lived until Oct 9th he would have been in the ministry 61 years.  Mr. Caldwell preached his last sermon Oct 10, 1897 in Paris, which was his 60th anniversary. May 15, 1838 he married Miss Rachel Comingo and to them were born six children Immediately after his marriage he returned to the SOuth where he had been for hs health and at Coosa County, Alabama he organized a church and built a house, taking part in hewing of logs from which it was built, carrying of ortar and gave his horse to the plasterer for his remuneration. In 1839 he preached at Mt. Sterling and Springfield and after the church at Sharpsburg was built in 1848, he preached at Mt. Sterling and Sharpesburg. On Jan 18, 1864 his wife entered into rest and on April 5, 1866 he was married to Miss Mary Taylor of Mason County. To them was born one child, Miss Sueof Sharpsburg. From 1867 he preached 7 and 1/2 years at Crawfordsville, Ind. Returning from Indian ahe preached four years at Olivet, Shelby County. Returning to Sharpesburg in April 1883 he preached at that place and Moorefield until April 1891 when on account of infirmities he ceased from active labors. During his ministry he performed 441 marriage ceremonies and baptized 228 children. Funeral services was conducted at the Presbyterian church, Sharpsburg by pastor Rev. FJ Cheek and Dr. HM Scudder of Carlisle assisted by Rev. AJ Arrick this city; JK Nunnelley Georgetown; HF Searcy pastor Baptist Church at Sharpesburg and MT Chandler of the Methodist Church after which his remains were buried in Crown Hill cemetery. This old world has thus lost another of her best men - a man who had accomplished much for God and whom He now delights to honor.
