St. Louis June 12 -  a private telegram from Hannibal, Missouri says that Mr. Canby, brother of the late General Canby died there on Monday last.

Assume this is Charles GC Canby 19 March 1823 – 6 June 1873 (seems too young though) buried Greenlawn Cem, Plattsburg, Clinton County, Missouri

On FindAGrave this obit was found but he did not died on 16 June – 6 June as it would have been after the obit the 16th

Died, at the State Lunatic Asylum, in this city, on Monday, June 16, 1873, Mr. C. G. C. Canby. Mr. Canby lived at West Ely, Marion county, Mo., and was a highly respected citizen of that place.
It is always a painful duty to the journalist to record the death of any one and it is double painful under the peculiar and distressing circumstances which surrounded the subject of this notice. Mr. Canby was a brother of the late General Canby, who was murdered by the Modocs, and it is thought that the tragic death of the latter led to what was hoped would only prove a temporary spell of insanity. Mr. Canby was brought here and placed in the Asylum a short time ago, where he, on Monday, breathed his last.  His remains were taken home for burial.

Born 19 March  1823 Boone County, Kentucky Son of IG Canby – brother of  ERS Canby
