Grandma Carter, familiarly known as “Aunt Artie,” died at her old home west of Parkersburg on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1898. Had she lived until the month of February she would have reached her 93 milestone. She has been very feeble for some time and required constant care and attention. She was the mother of ten children, five boys and five girls, one daughter having preceded her to the better land. Four sons and three daughters were in attendance at the funeral services, which were conducted by Rev. John S. Crowder at the old home on Thursday morning at 10 o’clock. A large concourse of friends and relatives gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to the oldest resident of this community. Interment was at the Lafollette Cemetery. -s
