Ralph A. Chitty, Former County Agent, Is Dead Ralph A. Chitty, 76-year-old former resident of this city and the second man to be named a county agriculture extension agent in Indiana, died Saturday in the Methodist Home at Franklin. A native of Hope, Mr. Chitty was named Montgomery County agriculture agent 50 years ago. He remained in this county seven years before moving to White County to farm, remaining there until his retirement. He attended Purdue University, graduating in 1911. He taught for a year at Iowa State College. Mr. Chitty operated a large farm near Chalmers. He raised Poland China hogs and was an early promoter of soybean cultivation in Indiana. He was a member of the Federated Church at Brookston and the Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Brookston Library board. Surviving are two sons, Richard A. of Chalmers and Ralph W. of Rt. 1 Chalmers, and two sisters, Mrs. Lessie Weinland of Hope and Mrs. Edith Davis of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, who died a number of years ago. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Thompson funeral Home of Brookston. Interment will be in Chalmers Community Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home. = kbz
