James Franklin Clark, better known as Frank Clark, died on Tuesday afternoon about 5 o'clock. He was working with his son, Harry at the school building, making some alterations. Feeling the extreme heat, he came down off a ladder and sat down on the front steps. He called to his son that he was not feeling well and the latter reached him just in time to have him died in his arms. Death resulted from leakage of the heart from which the deceased has been a sufferer. The funeral service at the home on Thursday afternoon were in charge of Rev. Olin S. Stewart of the ME Church. Funeral ceremony at the Presbyterian Cemetery in charge of the local Masonic Lodge. Mr. Clark was the son of Elijah and Elizabeth Clark and was born in Woodstock, Shenandoah Co, VA Dec 8, 1837 but came to Indiana when a small boy. He lived for a time in Benton County but most of his life with the exception of 3 years in Buffalo, MO was spent around Alamo and Waveland. He married Louisa Richardson, April 2, 1860. To them were born six children, all now dead with the exception of one son, Elijah Harris Clark. Mrs. Clark died August 21, 1917. There are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother; Mrs. Thomas Fishero of Veedersburg, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Wesley and John A. Clark of Franklin. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. He joined the Odd Fellows at Alamo 53 years ago and became a Mason in Buffalo, MO 47 years ago. Mr. Clark was a miller and had charge of the old Clark mill on Sugar Creek just north of Dowden school house, the Rockport Mills, and several others. He was also a carpenter, which trade he followed in his later years. He was an expert workman, taking great pride in his work and it was his desire that he might be able to keep working to the end of his life. This desire was granted. After his wife's death he said that he did not expect to live out the year. He was a faithful husband, a loving parents and good neighbor. He was always included to make the best of things and met the world with a smile! - kbz
