Martha Ellen Clark departed from this life Oct 5, at 10:30 a.m. She was born on a farm one mi. so. of Waveland, April 9, 1846. At the time of death she was 68 years 5 months and 26 days. She was the daughter of John S. and Margaret E. Clark. At the age of 3, she with her parents and older sister moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa where at the age of 7, her father was taken away, leaving the mother, one brother and sister to enter into life's long struggle. The mother, with three small children, made the trip back from Iowa in a covered wagon. She then took up the task of raising her family among friends and relatives. The mother, who afterwards became Mrs. James Spencer, departed to the better world Aug 23, 1883. The deceased was married Dec 6,1 883, to John K. Irwin, who died March 22,1 913. To this union was born a son, Omar, who died in infancy. Mr. & Mrs. Irwin, after their marriage purchased the farm where they have resided until two weeks ago, when Mrs. Irwin left the old place to make her home with her sister, Mrs. RL Moore, north of Waveland. She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister, Mrs. RL Moore, and a brother, David W. Clark of Russellville, besides a host of near relatives, neighbors and friends. She had been afflicted for a number of years with a disease, which prevented her from getting around much, but notwithstanding her affliction she was of a kind and cheerful disposition, beloved by all who knew her. She was a devoted Christian, having united with the Methodist Church at what was known as Old Highland at the age of 18. Funeral services were held at Pisgah Church at half past 10 on wed. morning by Rev. Wm. W. Speer - kbz
