James J. CLEMENTS, a former resident of Browns Valley, died in Crawfordsville on Thursday last after an extended illness. Funeral at a local funeral parlor on Saturday morning were in charge of Rev. BE Antrobus, former pastor of the Crawfordsville Baptist Church and Rev. HH Elmore. The pall bearers were Homer Biddle; Albert Morris; Earl Berry; Dr. Milo Bushong; Darrel Mahorney and James Gabriel. Burial in Indian Creek Cemetery. He was born in Salem, Indiana Dec 8, 1845 and was the son of Nathan and Ann Clements. They moved to Montgomery County when he was a young man. He farmed, ran a grocery in Browns Valley and later was elected township trustee giving good service. In November 1883 he married Flora F. SPAULING of Frankfort. She died in 1901. He moved to Crawfordsville in 1913 and bought a grocery. Later he engaged in the coat business until disabled by illness. He was a member of the city council from 1926 to 1930. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. BH Myers of Crawfordsville and Mrs. NA Carey of Oakland, California. His eldest daughter, Mrs. Frank CARRINGTON died in 1924. SN Moody was a nephew. He was a member of the Baptist Church. kbz
