Mary E. GAINES CLORE daughter of Alonzo and Mary Christie Gaines, was born in Boone Co, Ky, Feb 7, 1859. She passed away at her home in Waveland Tuesday morning April 28, 1942. At home in Ky, she grew to womanhood and received a good common school education, subsequently attending Hamilton College at Lexington. On Sept 1, 1881, she was married to Doren CLORE of Waveland, who died Dec 22, 1934. She came as a happy bride to Waveland where she lived all her married life. When a girl she united with the Christian Church in Ky. She was a member of the Woman's Bible Class of the Christian Church of Waveland. She was an able Bible student and was efficient in the delineation of its characters. Mrs. Clore was prominent in the club life of the county. She was a Charter Member of the Book Club, Current Events and the Department Club in which she took an active part as long as her health permitted. Many valuable and interesting papers on various subjects were her cheerful contributions to the welfare of the many organizations of which she was a militant member. The following is a recent tribute from one of her many friends. All paths lead to this home. We all like to come here, men and women, rich and poor, young and old. All receive the same cordial welcome and go away better and happier. She is noted for her gracious hospitality, her keen mind, her brilliant conversation and her ready wit. These lovely qualities have been an inspiration to others through all the years. Those surviving are: sister-in-law, widow of Lonnie Gaines, several cousins in Ky, a cousin Lex Clore of Crawfordsville and many friends. The funeral was held at the home on Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. JC Nelson of Indianapolis. A piano program of sacred music was played by Mrs. Lowell Spencer. Pall bearers were TA Garland; Donald Douglas; HA Kesler; Robert Mitchell; TN Johnson and Edgar Pitts. Burial in Maple Ridge Cemetery by her husband. - kbz
