July 2, 1947-March 29, 2014: Mr. Stanley Allen Clampitt, 66, Crawfordsville, passed away in his home on Saturday, March 29. He was born July 2, 1947, in Montgomery County, to Charles Nelson and Dorothy Hazel (Caldwell) Clampitt, and was raised on his father’s farm in southern Montgomery County. He married Ann Liddington on Jan. 11, 1996, in Montgomery County. She preceded him in death in 2002. Mr. Clampitt took an early retirement from Eli Lilly, Lafayette, where he had worked from October 1974 through March 2001. After his retirement he moved to South Carolina with his late wife and then returned to Indiana in November of 2013. He was a graduate of New Market High School and Vincennes University; served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam where he received the “Army Commendation Medal.” His hobbies and interests included: home computer technology (having assembled his first Heathkit home computer in 1978); American railroad history; English history; local history; genealogy; vintage farm equipment; photography; classical, Celtic, and early country music; the literature and philosophy of Ayn Rand; politics; small-breed terriers; dog shows; Fox News; and lawn care. He is survived by his son: Stu A. Clampitt, Crawfordsville; and his sister: Jill (James) Burch, Crawfordsville. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Diane Clampitt; and his brother: Timothy Clampitt. Cremation was selected with a Memorial Service being held on Saturday, April 12, at 5 p.m. at Powers-Priebe Funeral Home. The family will greet friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. Following the service at 5 p.m., a meal is being prepared for the family and close friends at First Christian Church, 211 S.
