Clossin - Alexander

Alexander Clossin was born in Pennsylvania July 24, 1820. When about eighteen years old his mother, together with the children, the father having died in Pennsylvania, removed to Indiana and settled in Montgomery County, where he lived continuously with the exception of a short time at Dayton, Tippecanoe County, and Iowa, until the day of his death, April 15, 1901.

Jan. 10, 1844, he was married to Mary Ann Findley and to them was born five children, B. C. and F. R. Clossin, Mrs. Katy Ann Chesterson, and Sarah Elizabeth Mason and Clarista J. the mother and Clarista died in Iowa. The mother died May 28, 1857, and Clarista, May 1, 1856. Sometime in 1858 he was again married to Hannah Horner, and to them was born two children, one having died in infancy, the other, Joel, living to reach man’s estate. The second wife died October 22, 1897. Ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive him.

The deceased was a kind husband and father, an honorable citizen and good neighbor. He was a member of the German Baptist Church to which faith he was a consistent worker. Grandpa will be sadly missed by the children, and neighbors will miss the cheery voice in greeting. The family wishes to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness during the days of sickness and care of their father. - "S"

Alexander Clossin, aged 81, died last Monday at his home five miles southeast of the city. He was an old resident of the county and had lived on the farm where he died for 64 years.  Mr. Clossin was twice married and leaves four grown children. They are F. R. and B. C. Clossin, Mrs. Sarah E. Mason, and Mrs. Katie Chesterson. The funeral occurred Tuesday at 1 o’clock at the residence of F. R. Clossin, interment at the K. of P. Cemetery at Mace. Rev. Harshbarger conducted the funeral exercises.
