Alamo, July 9 - Newton Compton, 76, passed away at his home one mile east of here, Saturday night at 11:30 o'clock. Heart trouble was the cause of death although Mr. Compton had been in failing health a year. He had been seriously ill 4 weeks. Deceased was born near Alamo Dec 2, 1852, the son of Ira S. and Judah Vaughn Compton. He was married to Sarah Stonebraker who passed away about 15 years ago. Later he was married to Emma Rush Peyton. He was a member of the Alamo Christian Church and alamo IOOF lodge. His entire life had been spent in this community where he was highly respected. Surviving are the widow, one sister, Mrs. Martha Lee of Alabama and several nieces and nephews. - kbz
