Waveland - Sarah Eva Compton, former Fountain County official, died at 6 a.m. Thursday at the Waveland home of her daughter, Mrs. John (Flossie) Gilliland. Mrs. Compton, who passed her 90th birthday only a week ago, had been in failing health since 1966. The deceased once held the office of Fountain County recorder. She came to Waveland from that area in 1959. Mrs. Compton had resided in the Fountain communities of Covington, Veedersburg and Sterling. At the time of her death, she held membership in the Sterling Christian Church. Born on May 16, 1878 in Eldorado, Ill., she was the daughter of Jake and Elizabeth Green McConnell. She was married to Albert G. Compton in Eldorado. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Indiana where Mr. Compton died several years ago. Surviving besides the daughter of Waveland are another daughter, Mrs. Cullen (Wilma) Boughner of Warren, Ind.; a son, Earl Compton of Hammond; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home in Waveland with Rev. Alfred Dobbs in charge. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery near Hillsboro. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday.

Waveland, Ind. - Mrs. Sarah Eva Compton, 90, a former resident of Fountain County, died this morning (May 23, 1968) at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John Gilliland with whom she had made her home since 1959. She formerly lived at Covington, Veedersburg and Sterling. She was formerly Fountain County recorder. Born in Eldorado, Ill., she was a daughter of Jake and Elizabeth Green McConnell. She was married in Eldorado to Albert G. Compton who preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gilliland and Mrs. Cullen Boughner of Warren, Ind.; a son Earl Compton of Hammond; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Compton was a member of the Sterling Christian Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home in Waveland. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs will officiate. Burial will be in the Rockfield Cemetery near Hillsboro. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
